National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions (NCQLP)
The NCQLP is a non-profit organization founded in 1991 to serve and protect the well-being of the public through effective and efficient lighting practice. Through a peer-review process, the NCQLP establishes the education, experience and examination requirements for baseline certification across the lighting professions.
The Lighting Certification Exam is a service of the NCQLP. The next examination will be held on: Saturday, November 4, 2017.
The 2017 exam fees are:
Early Application – Postmark Deadline August 9th USD $575
Final Application – Postmark Deadline – September 20th USD $675
To be eligible to take the exam, one must meet one of the following requirements:
- Have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of three years of lighting related work experience. OR
- Have a minimum of six years of lighting-related work experience.
Evidence of qualifications (e.g., CV, letters of reference, transcripts) must be provided via NCQLP’s online application system.
The exam is a 4 hour, two section test with 180 multiple-choice questions, of which 80 are a series of job-related case studies. The pass rate for the exam is 70%, with a success rate of about 80%.
