One hundred years ago Matthew Luckiesh was considered the Father of the Science of Seeing as the first real lighting designer focusing on the physical, sociological and biological effects of electric lighting. This presentation will take a leap back in time to trace his ideas on the burgeoning art of Lighting Design and how these first important steps have carried through the following hundred years of advances in technologies and understanding of the illuminated environment.
Presenter: Ian Martens – BFA, MFA
Light has been a passion of Ian’s for as long as he can remember. Holding a Master’s degree in Theatrical Design from the U of C, he spent 15 years as a freelance set and lighting designer for countless productions throughout the province, garnering several professional award nominations along the way. Four years ago he made the transition to Architectural lighting design – broadening his designs from the small stage to the world at large and challenging him to expand on his understanding and use of light. Now Ian provides his design creativity and expertise to SMP Engineering and Lighting based out of Calgary.
