Technology is advancing at an extremely rapid pace in our world, and lighting controls is no exception to this advancement. As a specifier it becomes difficult to design lighting controls into projects that: keeps up with the latest technology, meet changing energy codes, allow for multiple options in product selection and doesn’t require in depth training of every single product on the market. In this presentation we will take an unbiased look at lighting control design. By breaking down the technologies available in the market participants will learn to convey intent without over designing, and be able to use design principles that can be applied to projects regardless of manufacturer or product.
Presenter: Dave Hiemstra – Controls Group Manager – Optics Lighting
Over 7 years ago Dave began his career in the lighting and controls industry with Optics Lighting. In his role as Controls Group Manager, focusing specifically on lighting controls, he has worked closely with electrical engineers and electrical contractors on many large-scale projects in Alberta providing education, support, programming and design assistance. Most recently, with the introduction of the NECB code and the quick advancement of IoT in lighting, he has developed himself as an educator and resource for both the code and lighting controls. He is always excited to share his knowledge and experience as our industry pushes ahead with sustainable building practises.
